The new Andrew Wong restaurant in Bloomberg Arcade ...

Steamed mushroom buns

Overall evaluation: 8.5/10

Food quality/ taste: 9/10

Price: 8/10 (£44 pp for 4 starters to share, one main with sides, one dessert and 2 beers)

Service: 7.5/10

Value for money: 8.5/10

Kym's is the new restaurant from Andrew Wong, which has recently opened in Bloomberg Arcade, very close to Bank Station. The restaurant, which has been funded by the White Rabbit Fund (among its investments there are Kricket and Island Poke too), is thought to be a cheaper, yet cool alternative to the Michelin starred sister restaurant A. Wong in Pimlico.

Personally, I really liked the restaurant and its concept, especially the very vibrant and cool atmosphere, mostly thanks to the entrance dominated by a huge bar and a cherry blossom tree. Its food is inspired to China and, in particular, it combines the ancient Chinese roasting techniques with a touch of modern creativity.

Prawn Craker with Spicy Ketchup

Kym's is also a very versatile place, being suitable for lunch, drinks, dinner and brunch (they offer a formula for Sunday Roast at ~£25 p.p. and ~£40 if adding free floating alcohol).

I went to Kym's last week with Francesco for dinner on a Saturday. The menu they suggest is thought to be mostly shared, but there is also a choice of few classics which can be consumed individually.

We decided to share most of the dishes, as there were some interesting proposals we wanted to try. A few highlights on my side:

Tiger Prawn Skewer

- The Tiger Prawn Skewers / Sweet Chilli / Pineapple / Cracker were delicious and a really innovative idea. Basically, a skewer made of one giant and juicy prawn, coated in a crunchy puffed cracker

- The Steamed Mushroom Buns (in the picture at the start) were also really good and extremely similar to a real mushroom from outside!

Among the other things we ordered the Prawn Cracker was nothing new but really tasty and came with an extremely spicy sauce, the Lemongrass Salad was good and refreshing, but not new in terms of flavors (very similar to the classic Vietnamese/ Thai salad).

Crispy Pork Belly / Soy Chicken / Iberico Pork Char Sui

Francesco also got a main, a mix of different types of meat (Three Treasure – Crispy Pork Belly / Soy Chicken / Iberico Pork Char Sui), which he really liked. Also, his side of Hand Cut noodles was very good and tasty.

As a dessert we got this Pineapple bun with Custard which was very well done.

Price wise, we ended up spending something more than £40 pp, which considering the place makes sense.

So overall, I suggest Kyms, especially for a casual, yet cool sharing dinner or if you are up to a drink with a small bite!
